Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, new breakthroughs in light-activated gels and high-intesity lights now make it possible to achieve a whiter, brighter smile--right her in our office.  This procedure is called the ZOOM Whitening, as seen on shows such as Extreme Makeover.  Tooth whitening is not permanent.  A touch-up maybe needed every few years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Reasons for tooth whitening:

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)
  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer
  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.)
  • Yellow, brown stained teeth

What does tooth whitening involve?

We apply a whitening gel to your teeth.  After each tooth has been treated, we rinse away the gel and repeat the cycle 3 times (about 15 minutes a session).  To minimize the small amount of gum or tooth sensitivity you may experience for a few days following the treatment, we may use a rubber dam or a special protective material applied directly to your gums.

Since every case is different, we carefully evaluate your individual results.  We sometimes recommend additional at home bleaching.  Power Whitening is an effective new technology that can help give you a beautiful new smile.
